comments: Mercury (high) and Jupiter (near horizon) are easy, Mars is about halfway between them

Processing in Photoshop:
1) make duplicate
2) to copy, apply Gaussian blur (radius 15), then reduce brightness and contrast (-65, -65)
3) from orig, apply image, subtract
4) resultant image, unsharp mask
5) adjust levels, curves
6) reduce size for web

Oh! And the string of lights along the bottom? Cars on the inner loop of the Beltway (495).
